What to do in Beijing

Visit the Forbidden city

Also known as the Palace Museum (Gu Gong in Chinese), the Forbidden city is the largest imperial palace in the world. The current museum lies at the city center of Beijing, and once served as the imperial palace for 24 emperors during the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368 - 1911), so the UNESCO has listed it as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1987. Having been the imperial palace for some five centuries, Forbidden City houses numerous rare treasures and curiosities.

Tiananmen Square and Temple of Heaven

Located at the center of the city you can visit the Tiananmen Tower, the Monument to the People’s Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, the chairman Mao Zedong (the founding father of the People’s Republic of China) Memorial Hall. Then ask your chauffeur to visit the Temple of Heaven, 17 min. driving away from Tiananmen square, the temple is located in a park which is larger than the Forbidden city where it also offers a long walk of halls, palaces and buildings that represent the chinese ancient culture during the Ming and Qing dinasties.

The Great Wall at Mutianyu

Visit the China’s star attraction isn’t easy due to the crowds of tourists. The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall lies in the Huairou District of Beijing, 73 kilometers from the city center. The Mutianyu section is one of the best-preserved parts of the Great Wall. Its construction is the largest in terms of scale and the best quality among all sections of Great Wall.
